Friendship Camp Usage Policy

Friendship Camp was provided through God’s grace and is sustained by the faithful giving and generosity of its member churches. Friendship Baptist Association (hereafter, the association) desires that Friendship Camp be used for the fellowship of the Body of Christ and to bring God glory. Although Friendship Camp is not generally open for public use, we may on approved occasions make Friendship Camp available to approved nonmembers, organizations and groups. This may be done as a witness to our faith, in a spirit of Christian charity and as a means of demonstrating the Gospel of Jesus Christ in practice.

It must be clear however, that our association will not permit Friendship Camp to be used by persons or groups holding, advancing, or advocating beliefs or practices that are in conflict with our association’s faith or moral teachings, which are summarized in, among other places, our Constitution and By-laws and in our adopted doctrinal statement, the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.  Nor will the association allow Friendship Camp to be used for any activity that contradicts with, or is deemed inconsistent with, the association’s faith or moral teachings. The Associational Missionary, his official designee, or the association through its Friendship Council, Executive Meeting or Annual Meeting are the final decision-makers concerning use of Friendship Camp.

This restricted facility use policy is necessary for two important reasons. First, the association cannot in good conscience cooperate in any activity or with any belief that is contrary to our faith. Allowing Friendship Camp to be used for purposes that contradict our association’s beliefs would be giving material cooperation and sanction to that activity, and such would be a grave violation of our association’s faith and religious practice (2 Cor 6:14; 1 Thess 5:22).

Second, it is very important that the association present and live out a consistent message to the community and churches we serve.  Allowing Friendship Camp to be used by groups or persons who express beliefs or engage in practices contrary to our association’s faith and practice would have a severe and negative impact on the message that our association strives to present and promote within our surrounding communities. It could also cause confusion and conflict within our member churches and to our community because by allowing persons or groups who believe and engage in practices that are contrary to our faith and practice to use Friendship Camp may rightfully be perceived as our association giving sanction and agreement to beliefs and practices that we reject.

Therefore, under no circumstances shall persons or groups be allowed to use Friendship Camp who hold, advance, or advocate beliefs, or advance, advocate, or engage in practices that contradict our association’s faith. Nor may Friendship Camp be used in any way that contradicts the association’s faith. This policy applies to all facilities within Friendship Camp because all of the association’s property is holy and set apart to worship God. (Col. 3:17).
